Home Base: Working From Home Never Looked So Good

It’s only the beginning of December and the snow is already on our front door steps.

In your living room and bedrooms, you have a cozy place to relax and watch TV when you don’t want to brave the cold. But do you have a place to set up camp and get your work done when the weather is frightful and the roads impassable? Working from home is a nice treat if you have the right space in which to do it. Having a home office can mean the difference between being productive and being distracted.

A home office can be your sanctuary. It’s the perfect place to get away from the clutter and mayhem of the rest of your home and focus on a demanding project. When creating your home office, think about your needs and how you work. Maybe you need a large work space so you can spread out materials and see all aspects of your project. Think about utilizing one of the corners in your office to install a spacious wrap-around desk. This will give you multiple workspaces and allow you to move around when you’re working on a project.

Do you have a lot of files and folders that need to be sorted and filed? Installing built-in cabinets and shelves is a great way to stay organized. Additionally, filing cabinets will minimize clutter on your workspace. Like they say, “A cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind.”

While a home office can be used as a secluded study to get work done, don’t be afraid to accommodate more than one person in it. Having multiple workspaces is a nice way to include someone else in your household who needs to pay bills or get homework done. For an easy revamp, put in additional chairs or an extra table. If you’re willing to invest a little more, build a wrap-around desk, an island, or an extension to create space for everyone to work.
